Laura Carmichael stars in Apologia at Trafalgar Studios
Laura Carmichael returns to the West End in Alexi Kaye Campbell’s darkly comic drama Apologia, directed by Jamie Lloyd.
Carmichael’s most recent stage work includes Jamie Lloyd’s contemporary adaptation of Jean Genet’s masterpiece The Maids also starring Uzo Aduba and Zawe Ashton.
Laura Carmichael is best known known for playing Lady Edith Crawley for all six seasons of the popular television series Downton Abbey.
Carmichael attended Peter Symonds College and subsequently studied acting at the Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, England. After graduating from the Old Vic Theatre School in 2007, Carmichael landed her first television role in the television film, The Heart of Thomas Hardy, followed by End of Our Street.
Carmichael made her feature film debut in Tinker Tailor Solider Spy (2012), alongside Gary Oldman. Other film work includes Madam Bovary (2014), alongside Mia Wasikowska; British black comedy Burn Burn Burn (2015); and A United Kingdom, alongside Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo. In addition to Downton Abbey, her television work includes the recent ITV crime thriller Marcella, opposite Anna Friel.
Her stage credits include Uncle Vanya (Vaudeville Theater), and off-West End productions of As You Like It, Stags and Hens, The President’s Holiday, and Plenty.
Apologia will run from 29 July 2017 until 18 November 2017 at Trafalgar Studios.
