Casting announced for Funny Girl

Full casting has been announced for Michael Mayer’s sold-out production of Funny Girl starring Sheridan Smith.

Joining Smith will be Darius Campbell who will portray Nick Arnstein, the gambler Fanny Brice falls for, Marilyn Cutts will play Fanny’s mother, with Valda Aviks and Gay Soper as Mrs Brice’s friends. The full cast includes Natasha J Barnes (Emma/Mrs Meeker), Maurice Lane (Mr Keeney), Bruce Montague (Ziegfeld), Joel Montague (Eddie),Emma Caffrey, Matthew Croke, Joelle Dyson, Rebecca Fennelly, Luke Fetherston, Leah Harris, Kelly Homewood, Sammy Kelly and Stuart Ramsay.

Sheridan Smith will bring her own interpretation to the role originated by Barbra Streisand and with American playwright and actor Harvey Fierstein revising Isabel Lennart’s original book, Michael Mayer’s production will not try to emulate Streisand.

Written by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, the musical is based on the life and career of Broadway star Fanny Brice, and her relationship with Nick Arnstein. It features songs including “People”, “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and “I’m the Greatest Star”.

Funny Girl runs from 2 December 2015 until 5 March 2015 at the Menier Chocolate Factory and if all goes well, will most likely transfer to the West End and then Broadway.
