Sheridan Smith has been confirmed to star in the Menier Chocolate Factory 2015 Winter season production of Funny Girl.

Smith, who recently won acclaim for her portrayal of British Singer and TV icon Cilla Black in the ITV drama will play Fanny Brice, the role originated by and made famous by Barbra Streisand. Smith’s great comic timing is well known, back up with a significant body of comedy TV roles in the last decade however her performances in Cilla and Legally Blonde prove she has the voice to carry off this production.
Smith’s theatre credits include A Midsummer Night’s (Noël Coward Theatre), Hedda Gabler (Old Vic), Flare Path(Theatre Royal Haymarket), Legally Blonde (Savoy theatre), Little Shop of Horrors (Menier Chocolate Factory) and Into The Woods (Donmar Warehouse). Her TV credits include The C Word, Mrs Biggs, The 7.39, Cilla, Benidorm, Grownups, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crips and the Royale Family. Smith’s film work includes Tower Block, Quartet, Powder Room and The Harry Hill Movie.
Funny Girl will be directed by Michael Mayer with choreography by Lynne Page, design by Michael Pavelka, lighting by Mark Henderson and sound by Richard Brooker.
Funny Girl will play a strictly limited season from 20 November 2015 until 5 March 2016 at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Funny Girl at the Menier Chocolate Factory has sold out, however the production will transfer to the West End for a limited 12 week season from 9 April 2016 until 2 July at the Savoy Theatre
