This intimate new play mixes humour with real emotional weight. It’s a story about found family, identity and growing up in the 90s, with show tunes and Streisand running through it.
Ilford Boy plays at the Donmar Warehouse from 10 October 2026 until 28 November 2026.

The boy lives in Ilford, of course he’s depressed. Ted Martin is a mixed-race teenager growing up in 90s East London, in a house full of chaos, laughter and tough love.
Then Patrick arrives. With his style, his humour and his love of show tunes, he shakes the foundations of Ted’s life and shows him another way to live. It’s a world filled with art, possibility and people who see Ted clearly for the first time.
