The new adaptation of the play, by Conor McPherson, is running at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 3 October 2026 to 9 January 2027.
Chekhov collaborators reunited
The production marks several notable reunions: Stephen Mangan returns to work with Ian Rickson for the first time since Pinter’s The Birthday Party in 2018, while Kristin Scott Thomas reunites with Rickson after her Olivier Award-winning turn as Arkadina in his acclaimed production of The Seagull, which played both London and Broadway.
Rickson, meanwhile, returns to Conor McPherson’s writing, having previously collaborated with him on the celebrated 1997 production of The Weir and on Uncle Vanya in 2020.
What to expect
The story follows Lyubov Ranevskaya returning to her childhood estate after years abroad, where she finds her family home and beloved cherry orchard under threat. As old loyalties falter and new ambitions rise, a world of privilege begins to crumble, can Lyubov embrace the future, or will the pull of memory prove impossible to escape?
The company also includes Ruby Bentall as Sharlotta, Karl Johnson as Firs, Vinette Robinson as Varya and Peter Wight as Gaev, with design by Chloe Lamford, lighting by Bruno Poet and sound by Tom Gibbons.
