A major new dance adaptation of the BAFTA-nominated Channel 4 series, It’s a Sin, has been confirmed, and will go on tour starting at Aviva Studios in Manchester on 16 February 2027, with Russell T Davies and Pet Shop Boys serving as Executive Producers.

Presented by Rambert, the UK’s leading contemporary dance company, in partnership with Factory International, the production reimagines Davies’ story of a generation of young gay men and their friends navigating the HIV and AIDS crisis in London between 1981 and 1991. It is a story of joy and innocence, loss and injustice, and of resilience, activism and love in the face of unimaginable change.

The show will stop at Sadler’s Wells, London between 10 – 13 June 2027, as well as theatres in Newcastle, Edinburgh, Salford, Norwich and Truro, where the tour will end on 15 July 2027.

It’s a Sin will be choreographed and directed by Rambert’s Artistic Director Benoit Swan Pouffer, working once again with dramaturg Kaite O’Reilly, following their earlier collaboration on The Almond and The Seahorse.

The wider creative team for there tour of It’s a Sin has also been confirmed, while cast members have not yet been announced.

From screen to stage

It’s a Sin first aired on Channel 4 in 2021, becoming a defining piece of British television and transforming the story of five friends growing up in the shadow of the AIDS epidemic into one of the most talked-about dramas of its era.

Star of the TV show It’s a Sin, Olly Alexander, told WhatsOnStage in October last year: “I can tell you that there has been work to make It’s a Sin for the stage. I think there has even been some kind of work on making it a dance piece, a musical, I know that there’s various people working on it. So watch this space.”

Rambert’s adaptation marks a bold new chapter for the story, translating its raw emotional power into a visceral, movement-led theatrical experience, where archive footage and cinematic visuals collide with contemporary dance.

The production also arrives during Rambert’s centenary year, forming a major part of the company’s nationwide FUTURE100 campaign to mark its second century of work.
