Production images have been released for the UK premiere of The Story, giving the first proper look at Tracey Scott Wilson’s seminal newsroom thriller, now playing at the National Theatre’s Olivier.
BAFTA winner Letitia Wright (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) makes her National Theatre debut as Yvonne, an ambitious young reporter who defies her editor to chase an incendiary lead, determined to get “the story” at any cost. She leads a company that includes Aliyah Odoffin as Latisha, Ashley Thomas as Neil, Lorraine Toussaint (Orange Is the New Black) as Pat and Wilf Scolding as Jeff.
When a white teacher is killed in a Black neighbourhood, four journalists race to land the headline — but as shocking new evidence pulls them into the dark heart of the case, each is forced to confront what they’re prepared to risk to tell their version of the truth. Directed by NT Associate Artist Clint Dyer, whose acclaimed Death of England trilogy also played the National, the production is a gripping, adrenaline-fuelled examination of racial politics and journalistic ethics.
The creative team includes set designer Anna Fleischle, costume designer Natalie Pryce, lighting designer Paul Anderson, movement director Lucie Pankhurst and sound designer Benjamin Grant. The Story plays at the Olivier until 24 October 2026.
