Rehearsal images have been released for Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, giving the first proper look at Gillian Anderson and Billy Crudup at work ahead of the production’s opening at @sohoplace on 21 September 2026.

Directed in-the-round by Marianne Elliott, the production stars Gillian Anderson as Martha and Billy Crudup as George, alongside Josh Dylan as Nick and Phoebe Horn as Honey, completing the toxic foursome at the heart of Albee’s play. The understudy company comprises Alex Cartuson, Jessica Kirton, Georgia Miles and Simon Willmont.

In the early hours of the morning on the campus of an American college, Martha invites new professor Nick and his wife Honey back to the house she shares with her husband George, much to his displeasure. As the drinks flow and dawn approaches, the young couple find themselves drawn into George and Martha’s toxic games, building to a climactic moment of devastating truth-telling.

“I swear… if you existed, I’d divorce you,” Martha tells George early in the play: a fitting taste of the ferocity to come.

The creative team includes designer Miriam Buether, lighting designer James Farncombe, sound designer Ian Dickinson, movement and intimacy director Ingrid Mackinnon, voice and dialect coach Charmian Hoare and fight director Sam Lyon-Behan. The production runs at @sohoplace until 19 December 2026, with press night on Wednesday 30 September.
