Shakespeare’s classic comedy is well suited to the outdoor venue, given it takes place in a fairy kingdom in the woods just outside of Athens. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a magical play full of frivolity and plenty of laughs as it follows runaway lovers and a troupe of rehearsing players as they unknowingly get caught up in the hijinks of the mischievous fairy Puck. The night takes a chaotic and transformational turn, and things look a little different once the magic begins wearing off.
This new production at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre brings a fresh interpretation to Shakespeare’s work, directed by Atri Banerjee (The Glass Menagerie, Julius Caesar) with folk-infused original music by Maimuna Memon (The Grapes of Wrath, Portia Coughlan).
