The Royal Ballet and Opera has announced its full 2026/27 Season, featuring bold reinterpretations of classic works and groundbreaking new creations. The season also includes the return of several heritage productions.
Royal Ballet and Opera Chief Executive Officer Alex Beard said the new season is ‘a celebration of bold storytelling, artistic innovation and inspiring performances that push the possibilities of our art forms. Through world‑class music, dance and theatre, we aim to connect with audiences not only in our two theatres, but across the globe.’
Classic operas and ballets set to be included in the season include Peter Wright’s beloved The Nutcracker, Liam Scarlett’s acclaimed production of Swan Lake, David McVicar’s production of The Magic Flute (conducted by Julia Jones and Dalia Stasevska who makes her debut) and Kasper Holten’s acclaimed Don Giovanni (conducted by Stefano Montanari).
Highlights of the Season
Some of the key productions included in the Royal Ballet and Opera’s new season include:
- A reimagining of Mozart’s comedy of manners Così fan tutte by Royal Opera Associate Director Netia Jones
- Damiano Michieletto’s Carmen (conducted by Sesto Quatrini) also returns as part of the new season.
- A new production of Un ballo in maschera directed by Philipp Stölzl in his Royal Opera debut.
- Kosky’s striking new staging of Handel’s Hercules, the work’s first return to Covent Garden since 1750
- Richard Jones’s Olivier Award‑winning Alcina returns as part of the season.
- The Royal Ballet Company’s heritage piece Manon by choreographer Kenneth MacMillan is included in the season.
- Visionaries: Robbins and MacMillan will bring together two 20th‑century masterpieces in one double bill.
- A roster of guest companies – including Fallen Angels Dance Theatre, Ballet Black, London City Ballet, Introdans and Northern Ballet – are also slated to perform.
