Check out new production photos for The Misanthrope at the National Theatre, starring Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh. Oh makes her National Theatre debut in this new adaptation of Molière’s classic play.

Adapted by Martin Crimp (Cyrano de Bergerac), The Misanthrope reimagines Moliere’s 1666 comedy for the 21st century. Alceste, a miserly and cynical man quick to criticise, becomes Alice, a brilliant novelist who is unafraid to tell people what she really thinks. But as she faces intense criticism, she must reckon with the cost of daring to speak her mind.

Award winning actress Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Sideways) makes her National Theatre debut as Alice, directed by National Theatre Director Indhu Rubasingham in her inaugural season.

The Misanthrope runs until 1 August 2026.
