According to Baz Bamigboye, Harvey Fierstein, who wrote the book, still intends for Newsies to cross the pond however they are waiting for the right theatre to become available, hence it could be a few years.  Fierstein’s Kinky Boots was in a similar fate until the early closure of Made in Dagenham opened the Adelphi for the West End transfer – who knows what other theatre’s might become available unexpectedly.

Disney’s Newsies was the unexpected Broadway hit of 2012; scheduled for only 101 performances when it opened it delighted Broadway audiences becoming a long running show, before closing after 1005 performances and grossing over $100million. It’s currently on a US tour.

Newsies The Musical is a Disney Theatrical Productions stage musical based on the 1992 musical film Newsies, which in turn was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City.   Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards® for Best Score and  Best Choreography, Newsies has a score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman.
