Janie Dee to star in Mrs Henderson Presents at Theatre Royal Bath

Janie Dee and Emma Williams to star in Mrs Henderson Presents at Theatre Royal Bath.

Baz Bamigboye reports Janie Dee is to star in the Theatre Royal Bath production of Mrs Henderson Presents. The musical is based on the film starring Judi Dench as Mrs Henderson, a society grand dame who put on nude revues at Soho’s Wyndham’s theatre between the World Wars. In the film the late Bob Hoskins played her right-hand man Vivian Van Damm, with Kelly Reilly as Maureen, the young woman Mrs Henderson helps. Emma Williams is to play the role of Maureen with further casting to be announced.

Janie Dee is currently rehearsing for Ah, Wilderness! at The Young Vic and will later this year play Arkadina in The Seagull at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre from 19 June 2015.

Mrs Henderson Presents is directed by Terry Johnson, with lyrics by Don Black and music by George Fenton and Simon Chamberlain.
The production runs from 14 August 2015 until 5 September 2015 at the Theatre Royal Bath – fingers crossed it will transfer to the West End.

UPDATE: Janie Dee has withdrawn from the production of Mrs Henderson Presents for personal reasons, with Tracie Bennet taking on the role of Mrs Henderson.

UPDATE: 9/10/15 Mrs Henderson Presents will transfer to the West End’s Noel Coward Theatre in February 2016.

  1. I can see this being a huge hit in the west end. A brilliant adaptation of the story of the Windmill Girls. The lyrics and the music excellent, clear and audible, the orchestra fantastic. The production will take you from fits of laughter to thought provoking reflection in others. Tracie Bennett plays Mrs Henderson to perfection with all other cast members giving first class performances too, making the whole show unforgettable for all the right reasons. I wouldn’t hesitate to see it again. I was thrilled by the whole production ~ GREAT STUFF.
