Producers of the world premiere production of Trainspotting The Musical have announced full casting for the show’s West End run.
Based on Irvine Welsh’s acclaimed novel, Trainspotting is premiering at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London on 15 July 2026, booking to 5 September 2026.
The show arrives in the West End 30 years after the BAFTA-winning Trainspotting film.

Meet the cast
Already announced in the cast is Scottish actor Robbie Scott (The Parent Agency, Lifeline), who is set to make his West End debut in the lead role of Renton.
Scott leads an ensemble cast that brings the familiar characters of Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy, and Kelly back to the stage, accompanied by a live band.
Fellow Scottish actor Sheridan Townsley (Sing Street) will play Sick Boy, with Rebecca McKinnis (The Parent Agency) as Cathy Renton, Kieran Andrew (Only Fools and Horses The Musical) as Spud, Frankie O’Connor (Trainspotting) as Begbie, Finlay Paul (Oklahoma!) as Tommy, Gordon Cooper (Stick Man) as Davie Renton, Ashley J. Russell (We Will Rock You) as Colleen, Rosie Dignan (Professional Debut) as Alison, Yana Harris (So Young) as Kelly, and Sophie Hutchinson (Rosie The Musical) as Lizzie.
The ensemble features Ally Kennard, Kieran Brown, Melanie Marshall, Lewis Kidd, Samuel Stewart, Finlay McKillop, Ciara Ennis, Victoria Nicol, Kyra Fyvie, and Chris O’Mara.
Irvine Welsh leads the creative team
The musical features a book by Irvine Welsh based on his hit novel and screenplay, with a score that incorporates iconic tracks from the 1996 film alongside new original songs by Stephen McGuinness and Irvine Welsh.
The show is directed and developed by Caroline Jay Ranger (Only Fools and Horses The Musical), with set and costume design by Colin Richmond, musical supervision and orchestrations by Stuart Morley, choreography by Christina Andrea, and video design by Douglas O’Connell.

Trainspotting on tour
Trainspotting The Musical is also set to tour this autumn, opening at the Edinburgh Playhouse on 19 October 2026.
The show then visits Sheffield, Manchester, York, Hull, Ipswich, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackpool, Stoke, Aberdeen, Nottingham, Cardiff, Southend, Bradford, Oxford, Sunderland, Dunfermline, Brighton, Glasgow, and returns to Edinburgh in March 2027.
