David Mamet’s modern classic
The revival is one of the last projects to be commissioned from outgoing artistic director Matthew Warchus, and will join his final season of in-the-round productions.
David Mamet’s modern classic won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play originally had its world premiere at the National Theatre in 1983, and was last revived on Broadway in 2025, also directed by Patrick Marber.
Director Patrick Marber released a statement expressing his excitement for the project:
“It’s a heck of a play to work on; hilarious, profound, obscene – a thrilling story with twists that make an audience gasp. It was written in the 1980s but it seems to me to be about our world right now. I’m very excited to be doing it again, this time as a premiere with an all-female cast. And I am honoured to be making my directing debut at the famous Old Vic with Mamet’s mighty play.”
Matthew Warchus added:
“Written in 1983, in the midst of Margaret Thatcher’s and Ronald Reagan’s radical shift to free-market capitalism, David Mamet’s razor-sharp classic, Glengarry Glen Ross portrays the dog-eat-dog culture of a world driven by ruthless competition. I’m excited to see Patrick Marber bring fresh immediacy to this breathlessly gripping play, with an all-female cast revealing new resonances for audiences.”
Casting for the show is to be announced.
Tickets go on general sale on 14 April.
