A new musical adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s seminal novel Trainspotting is set to receive its world premiere in London’s West End this summer.

The production, which arrives thirty years after the release of the BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated film, will begin performances at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London on 15 July 2026, booking to 5 September 2026.

Directed and developed by Caroline Jay Ranger (Only Fools and Horses The Musical), the show is described as a brand-new interpretation of the story of Renton and his associates.

A New Interpretation

The musical features a book by Irvine Welsh based on his hit novel, with a score that incorporates iconic tracks from the 1996 film alongside new original songs by Stephen McGuinness and Irvine Welsh.

“The various stage adaptations of Trainspotting have become acclaimed and moving theatrical experiences and the soundtrack to the movie is obviously iconic. So it made sense to put the music and words together to create an explosive, provocative and entertaining show.” – Irvine Welsh
