The producers of the hit stage adaptation Dirty Dancing have announced that work has begun on the new Capital Theatre in London, housed within the Westfield White City shopping centre.

The show was originally scheduled to open at the new venue on 23 October 2025, and extended its run in July 2025, before postponing the production the following month in August 2025.

At the time the producers said that, “due to encountering planning and design issues during the early stages of construction of the Capital Theatre at Westfield London, the opening date of Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage is to be delayed.”

Work is now believed to be on track for its new scheduled opening of 16 October 2026, with the show booking through to 21 March 2027.

The production will be the first major show to open at the Capital Theatre, a 620-seat venue at Westfield White City, designed to offer an intimate audience experience with no seat more than nine rows from the stage.

The theatre was originally conceived by West End producers Karl Sydow and Adam Kenwright, although Adam Kenwright is no longer credited on the project. Instead, film producer Ivan Mactaggart will now operate the venue with Karl Sydow.

The Dirty Dancing stage show is based on the iconic 1987 movie starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, transporting audiences to Kellerman’s resort in the summer of 1963, where Frances “Baby” Houseman meets charismatic dance instructor Johnny Castle and is drawn into a world of music, rebellion and passion.

The show features a company of over 40 performers and a live band playing a soundtrack of 35 unforgettable songs, including Hungry Eyes, Hey Baby, Do You Love Me?, and the Oscar-winning (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life – including the legendary final dance lift!

The stage adaptation is penned by the movie’s original screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein, and has previously enjoyed multiple runs in the West End and on UK tour.

Casting and the full creative team for the new London run are still to be announced.
