Hollywood star Sandra Oh is set to take the lead role in the National Theatre’s new production of Molière’s classic comedy The Misanthrope.
The Misanthrope is playing at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton Theatre from 16 June to 1 August 2026.
Award-winning TV and film actress Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) takes the title role in this adaptation by Martin Crimp (Cyrano de Bergerac), directed by the National’s artistic director Indhu Rubasingham (The Father and the Assassin).
Joining Sandra Oh in the cast is The Night Manager star Paul Chahidi (Phaedre, Wicked Little Letters), and Abigail Cruttenden (A Man for All Seasons, Handbagged).

What’s The Misanthrope about? A brilliant novelist called Alice despises the hollow contemporary mantras of kindness and respect. But the bolder she becomes in speaking out, the more colleagues avoid her, and the more her personal relationships begin to fracture. As she faces intense criticism and backlash, Alice soon learns the price she must pay as an artist and as a woman for daring to speak her mind.
Joining Indhu Rubasingham in the creative team is Set and Costume Designer Robert Jones, Lighting Designer Tim Lutkin, Casting Directors Alastair Coomer CDG and Martin Poile CDG, Voice Coach Jeannette Nelson, Associate Director Gitika Buttoo, and Associate Set and Costume Designer Ethan Cheek.
