Actor, comedian and presenter Rufus Hound (One Man, Two Guvnors) is starring in The Mesmerist at Watford Palace Theatre.
The Mesmerist is playing at Watford Palace Theatre from 2 to 21 March 2026.
In The Mesmerist, Rufus discovers that his grandad had been a magician – stage name ‘The Mesmerist’ – and that multiple boxes belonging to him were filled with old illusions, journals and props from his final magic show, previously performed in its entirety only once.
Intrigued and fascinated by the discovery, Rufus learnt the show – which has become The Mesmerist.
Rufus Hound said in a statement: “The last five years have been absolutely dizzying for everyone, but the death of my estranged granddad has been the cherry on the cake for me personally. I don’t think anyone was asking for this show – least of all me – but I’m very grateful to The Palace for allowing me to put a full stop to a very odd familial sentence. Trust me. I’m as weirded out by this as anyone, but the result is something I hope no one will ever forget.”
The Mesmerist is written by Maheni Arthur, Georgia Crowther, Lancelot Ellis and Christopher York, and directed by Steve Marmion.
The wider creative team includes Set and Costume Designer Jasmine Swan, Lighting Designer Philip Gladwell, Sound Designer Emma Laxton, Magic Consultant Scott Penrose, Video Design by DMLK, and Casting Director Jenkins McShane Casting.
On stage Rufus Hound is known for starring in the acclaimed West End and UK tour of One Man, Two Guvnors, and leading roles in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Savoy Theatre and The Wind in the Willows at the London Palladium.
On screen, Rufus’s credits include hosting Top of the Pops and Glastonbury coverage, and appearing on comedy panel show Celebrity Juice.
