A new production of Eugene O’Neill’s drama Desire Under the Elms is coming to the Almeida Theatre in London next year.
Desire Under the Elms is playing at the Almeida Theatre from 10 November to 19 December 2026.
The production will star Zackary Momoh (Seven Seconds; Harriet), and is directed by former Almeida Resident Director Ebenezer Bamgboye (The Lonely Londoners).
Four-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Eugene O’Neill’s shattering twentieth-century classic is inspired by Greek tragedy, and centres on a raging battle between the passion of the heart and the reason of the mind.
In the drama, as Eben and his half-brothers toil on their family farm, they dream of the future. Peter and Simeon are lured by California and the promise of gold, while Eben longs to have the farm all to himself. Any fantasies are on hold until the return of their patriarch Ephraim, who disappeared without a word two months ago. And when he does finally resurface, he is not alone. An unexpected companion instantly explodes both the status quo and their imagined futures.
Desire Under the Elms is running at the Almeida Theatre from 10 November to19 December 2026.
