Further star casting has been announced for the London stage revival of Shadowlands at the Aldwych Theatre in London.
Shadowlands will run at the West End’s Aldwych Theatre in London from 5 February to 9 May 2026.
Already announced is Downton Abbey and Paddington star Hugh Bonneville as C.S. Lewis.
He will be joined by acclaimed American TV and stage star Maggie Siff (Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, Billions) as Joy Davidman.
BAFTA, Primetime Emmy, and Golden Globe Award-nominated Hugh Bonneville reprises his widely praised performance as the celebrated author of The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis in the hit drama, written by William Nicholson (Gladiator).
The play is a moving portrait of love, loss and faith, exploring the transformative relationship between Oxford don C.S. Lewis and American poet Joy Davidman.
Directed by Rachel Kavanaugh (Half A Sixpence, Here & Now – The Steps Musical), the production was first staged in 2019 at Chichester Festival Theatre.
The wider creative team includes design by Peter McKintosh, with lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Fergus O’Hare and casting by Annelie Powell CDG and Jim Carnahan. The show is produced by Jonathan Church Theatre Productions, Trafalgar Theatre Productions and Tilted.

First written for television in 1985, Shadowlands was adapted by Nicholson for the stage in 1989, winning the Evening Standard Award for Best Play and later transferring to Broadway, where it received a Tony Award nomination. The story was also immortalised in the Oscar-nominated 1993 film starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger.
Hugh Bonneville returns to the West End stage fresh from the success of the final Downton Abbey film Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, has also been filming John Morton’s new BBC satire Twenty Twenty Six, reprising his W1A alter ego Ian Fletcher as he navigates the chaos of a U.S. hosted Soccer World Cup.
Maggie Siff recently completed seven seasons as Wendy on Showtime’s Billions. She is also known for Sons of Anarchy, and for playing Rachel Menken in Mad Men. Maggie’s recent films include The Short History of the Long Road, A Woman/A Part, The Sweet Life, The Fifth Wave, One Percent More Humid, and Concussion.
On stage, Maggie Siff recently starred in Creditors Off-Broadway opposite Liev Schreiber and directed by Ian Rickson, part of a new theatre company led by Hugh Jackman and Sonia Friedman. Her other credits include Breaking the Story, Orpheus Descending, Curse of the Starving Class, A Lie of the Mind, Much Ado About Nothing and The Taming of the Shrew.
Shadowlands will be playing at the Aldwych Theatre in London from 5 February to 9 May 2026.
