Tickets are now on sale for Les Liaisons Dangereuses, the National Theatre’s bold new revival of Christopher Hampton’s celebrated play — famously adapted into the Oscar-winning film Dangerous Liaisons.
Directed by Marianne Elliott (War Horse, Company), this sumptuous new staging opens at the Lyttelton Theatre from 21 March to 6 June 2026, starring Lesley Manville, Aidan Turner, Monica Barbaro, and Hannah van der Westhuysen.
Lesley Manville (The Crown, Sherwood, Mum) takes on the role of the cunning Marquise de Merteuil, originally played by Glenn Close in the 1988 film.
Aidan Turner (Rivals, Poldark) steps into the part of the dangerously charming Vicomte de Valmont, made famous by John Malkovich, while Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick) plays the virtuous Madame de Tourvel, portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer. Hannah van der Westhuysen (Fate: The Winx Saga) takes on the role of Cécile de Volanges, played by Uma Thurman in the film.
Adapted by Christopher Hampton from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ scandalous 18th-century novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses is a gripping tale of seduction, manipulation, and betrayal. Set in pre-revolutionary France, the story explores the ruthless games of love and power played among the aristocracy.
Marianne Elliott’s new production marks the first time the play has been staged at the National Theatre, promising a dazzling, psychologically charged reimagining of this timeless drama.
