A new musical showcased at The Other Palace’s MTFestUK in 2024 is teasing news.

Jordan Luke Gage (Bonnie & Clyde, & Juliet) has written new musical Redcliffe, which is currently teasing on social media that it is “Coming in 2026”, alongside a new video featuring Jordan Luke Gage.

Redcliffe is based on the true events of William Critchard and Richard Arnold in 1753, in an epic tale of forbidden love in the face of persecution.

William is feeling the pressure to find a wife while also being the breadwinner to his family. When he meets Richard, he unlocks a world he had never dared to explore, and there is no going back.

MTFest showcased Redcliffe in 2024 starring Jordan Luke Gage, James Darch, Jess Douglas Welsh, Chris Fung, Emma Lindars and Rebecca Lock, and directed by Josh Seymour, with musical direction by Ben Tomalin.

Following MTFest, the show had further public workshop performances in The Other Palace’s studio space in May 2024. The workshop starred Jordan Luke Gage as William, Liam Tamne (The Baker’s Wife) as Richard, Lauren Drew (Six), Nadine Higgin (Legally Blonde) and Rebecca Lock (Here & Now) as Mother, with Leanne Jones, Matteo Johnson, Jessica Lee, Rebecca Lock, Joseph Peacock, Steven Serlin, Jess Douglas and Russell Wilcox.

Producer of the workshops, and The Other Palace artistic director, Paul Taylor Mills is involved in the project.

This weekend at musicals fan event Musical Con in London, Paul Taylor Mills is celebrating 15 years of theatre productions, with performances from Evelyn Hoskins (Carrie), May Tether (Heathers), and Jordan Luke Gage.

At the time of the original workshops Jordan Luke Gage said in a statement: “Redcliffe is a story that I have been living with for some time now, so I’m very excited to present it in this workshop form to an audience. I based the musical on an article I found in the Bristol archives that explores the complexity of navigating a forbidden gay relationship in a world of societal pressure and expectations. Ultimately, it is the exploration of the human heart and the lengths we will go to be able to live freely.”

Paul Taylor-Mills, artistic director of The Other Palace, had said: “I established MTFestUK five years ago to allow writers of new musicals to play, explore, and present in front of an audience at the earliest stages. I have worked with Jordan many times, and whilst I knew of his incredible ability on stage, I had no idea of his passion and craft as a writer. To say I am blown away is an understatement. With Redcliffe he has made a musical that speaks to our generation yet at the same time puts the spotlight on a moment in time that needs remembering. It’s brilliant to see that the work of The Other Palace and The Turbine Theatre in showcasing new writers is bearing fruit. I can’t wait to see how the future of Redcliffe takes shape.”

Jordan Luke Gage recently starred in Saving Mozart at The Other Palace Theatre in London, and Titanique at the Criterion Theatre in London. His other credits include originating the role of ‘Romeo’ in the Olivier Award winning production of & Juliet at The Shaftesbury Theatre; and playing Clyde Barrow in Bonnie & Clyde The Musical at the Garrick Theatre in London.
