Acclaimed Broadway play Stereophonic by David Adjmi is closing at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London at the end of its current booking period.

In July the show extended its run by six weeks, and will end at the Duke of York’s Theatre when its booking period finishes on 22 November 2025.

The award-winning show is making way at the Duke of York’s Theatre for Sheridan Smith, who is returning to the West End stage this winter in a revival of Alan Ayckbourn’s Woman in Mind.

Stereophonic is directed by Daniel Aukin and features music by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler. Set in a recording studio in 1976, the show delves into the agony and ecstasy of music-making. As an up-and-coming band labours over its next album, internal pressures and external expectations push them toward either implosion—or musical greatness.

Stereophonic stars Zachary Hart (The Seagull, Barbican Theatre; The Constituent, The Old Vic) as Reg, Lucy Karczewski (The Seagull, Barbican Theatre) as Diana, Jack Riddiford (The Caretaker, Chichester; Dunkirk) as Peter, Nia Towle (Hamlet, RSC; A View From The Bridge, Theatre Royal Haymarket) as Holly and original Broadway cast members Andrew R. Butler as Charlie, Eli Gelb as Grover and Chris Stack as Simon.

The understudies are Sam Denia (Reg, Charlie and Grover), Rima Georges (Holly), Lucy Gray (Diana), and Steve Shirley (Simon and Peter).

The play opened in the West End in May 2025 following its award-winning Broadway debut, with 13 Tony Award nominations and 5 wins including Best Play.

In London the production has earned widespread critical praise for its immersive portrayal of a 1970s rock band on the edge of greatness and collapse.

The creative team for Stereophonic also includes David Zinn (scenic designer), Enver Chakartash (costume designer), Jiyoun Chang (lighting designer), Will Butler and Justin Craig (Orchestrations), Ryan Rumery (sound designer), Justin Craig (music director) and Robert Pickens & Katie Gell (hair & wig design). UK Casting is by Julia Horan CDG with US Casting by Alaine Alldaffer CSA, Lisa Donadio CSA and Taylor Williams CSA.

Stereophonic is produced in London by Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Seaview, Linden Productions and Ashley Melone & Nick Mills, and Playwrights Horizons: Adam Greenfield, Leslie Marcus and Carol Fishman.

Stereophonic is booking at the Duke of York’s Theatre to 22 November 2025.
