English National Opera has announced that they are staging Stephen Sondheim’s musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the London Coliseum in Spring 2015.

The production will star award-winning international opera singer Bryn Terfel as Sweeney Todd, and acclaimed Hollywood actress and screenwriter Emma Thompson as Mrs Lovett.

Directed by Lonny Price, the production will mark the first in a new partnership between the ENO and Michael Grade and Michael Linnit’s GradeLinnit Company.

The show will run for 13 performances at the London Coliseum from 30 March to 12 April 2015 and feature the ENO orchestra conducted by David Charles Abell.

This semi-staged concert production was originally produced by the New York Philharmonic at the Lincoln Center in New York earlier this year.

Sweeney Todd has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, adapted by Christopher Bond. The show premiered in 1979 on Broadway. A recent Chichester Festival Theatre production ran at the Adelphi Theatre in London and starred Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton.

Further casting will be announced, and tickets will go on sale on 23 Setpember 2014.
