Plans are underway for a temporary theatre to be built at Marble Arch in London, as a replacement for the Arts Theatre in the West End.

The Arts Theatre, which is home to long-running West End musical The Choir of Man, recently closed for refurbishment, reopening again in March 2025. However, the building is scheduled for a further, major refurbishment from January 2026.

The temporary theatre would sit on the lawn directly next to the Marble Arch at the end of Oxford Street, and would remain in place for two years.

The theatre would become the temporary home for The Choir of Man, opening in March 2026.

The new theatre would be built by HH Productions (Amelie The Musical), who are holding a public consultation about the theatre before they submit a planning application to Westminster Council.

The public consultation is on 21 July 2025 from 3.30pm to 7.30pm at the Marriott Park Lane at Marble Arch, and will be attended by the architects, Reed Watts Architects, and development team.

There is precedent for a temporary theatre at Marble Arch, with Underbelly Productions building a temporary Spiegeltent theatre in 2017 for their revival of Five Guys Named Mo – at Marble Arch Theatre.

The current cast of The Choir of Man features Jason Brock (Thriller Live) as ‘Romantic,’ Benji Lord (Dreamboats and Petticoats) as ‘Joker,’ David Booth (The Threepenny Opera) as ‘Pub Bore,’ Paul McArthur (Tracks) as ‘Poet,’ Oliver Jacobson (Come From Away) as ‘Barman,’ Rob Godfrey (The Choir of Man – Sydney Opera House) as ‘Beast,’ Ifan Gwilym-Jones (The Choir of Man, international productions) as ‘Maestro,’ George Knapper (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) as ‘Handyman,’ and Bradley Walwyn (We Will Rock You) as ‘Hardman.’ Swings are Alex Mallalieu (As You Like It), Toby Francis (High Fidelity), David Shute (Stick Man) and Tom Carter-Miles (Shantify).

The Choir of Man is created by Nic Doodson and Andrew Kay and directed by Doodson, with monologues by Ben Norris and musical supervision by Jack Blume. The creative team also includes movement direction and choreography by Freddie Huddleston, scenic design by Oli Townsend, lighting by Richard Dinnen, sound design by Sten Severson, and costume design by Verity Sadler.

The Choir of Man is currently booking at the Arts Theatre until 4 January 2026.
