Multi–Brit Award-winning music artist Stormzy is set to collaborate with the National Theatre’s new artistic director Indhu Rubasingham on a world premiere stage production.

The as yet untitled project is slated to be part of the National Theatre’s new season, which was announced today.

This marks one of Rubasingham’s most high-profile collaborations since taking on the role of artistic director.

Stormzy is one of the UK’s most successful and influential contemporary musicians.

While details about the production remain under wraps, the collaboration is expected to reflect both Stormzy’s unique voice and Rubasingham’s reputation for socially resonant, inclusive theatre.

In a statement released today, Stormzy spoke about the personal significance of the project: “I’ve always been drawn to theatre and over the past few years I’ve loved going to all kinds of plays and musicals. It’s such a unique space where storytelling, music and performance all come together in the most powerful way and there’s something about experiencing theatre that’s always stayed with me. When I went to see Indhu at the National Theatre, we properly hit it off and I’m excited to go on this creative journey with her. More details to be announced in the future.”

Stormzy is a British rapper, singer, and songwriter widely regarded as one of the most influential and successful musicians in the UK today. His #Merky Books, a Penguin Random House imprint, publishes works by underrepresented authors.

Further information about the production, including casting, creative team, and performance dates, is expected to be released later this year.
