The critically acclaimed revival of Sunset Boulevard, starring Nicole Scherzinger as Norma Desmond, has extended its run at Broadway’s St James Theatre until 13 July 2025. This newly announced date will mark the production’s final performance.
Directed by Jamie Lloyd, the reimagined staging of Sunset Boulevard opened to rave reviews after beginning its limited run on 28 September 2024, with an official opening on 20 October. Initially set to conclude on 7 July, the show’s extension follows overwhelming audience demand.
The production, which transferred from the West End’s Savoy Theatre, features a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with a book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. The creative team includes Fabian Aloise (choreography), Soutra Gilmour (set and costume design), Jack Knowles (lighting design), Adam Fisher (sound design), and Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom (video design and cinematography). Alan Williams serves as the music supervisor and musical director. The musical is based on the classic 1950 film by Billy Wilder.
Scherzinger stars alongside Tom Francis as Joe Gillis, Grace Hodgett Young as Betty, and David Thaxton as Max, who all appeared in the West End production.
Mandy Gonzalez, who plays Norma Desmond on Tuesday evenings, will take her final bow on 1 July ahead of the production’s closing.
The London production won seven Olivier Awards, including Best Musical Revival, Nicole Scherzinger for Best Actress in a Musical and Tom Francis for Best Actor in a Musical, and the New York production is widely tipped for big wins at the Tonys.
Next up for Jamie Lloyd will be a major revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice’s Evita, coming to the London Palladium for a limited run this summer. Lloyd also has his acclaimed revival of Much Ado About Nothing starring Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell running at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane through to 5 April 2025.
Sunset Boulevard is produced by The Jamie Lloyd Company, Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, and Gavin Kalin Productions by arrangement with The Really Useful Group Ltd and based on the Paramount Pictures film directed by Billy Wilder.
Sunset Boulevard completes its Broadway run at the St James Theatre on 13 July 2025.
