In Operation Mincemeat, it’s 1943, and the Allied Forces are on the ropes. Luckily, they’ve got a trick up their sleeve. Well, not up their sleeve, per se, but rather inside the pocket of a stolen corpse. Equal parts farce, thriller, and Ian Fleming-style spy caper (with an assist from Mr. Fleming himself), Operation Mincemeat tells the wildly improbable and hilarious true story of the covert operation that turned the tide of WWII.
The show is written and composed by the comedy troupe, SpitLip, comprised of David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts.
Video: Operation Mincemeat first preview on Broadway
The first preview on Saturday 15 February 2025 got a 5-minute standing ovation, and following the curtain call, the cast were greeted outside The John Golden Theatre, where fans sang “Sail On, Boys”, the musical’s signature theme.
The fitting of a retro, 1940s-style marquee outside the theatre didn’t quite go to plan for the first preview, due to the special yellow lightbulbs they ordered from China getting stuck in customs due to the US’s recently enacted tariffs. However, the new yellow marquee is now all in glorious place.
Directed by Robert Hastie, Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical’s official opening night is set for Thursday 20 March 2025 at the Golden Theatre.

Operation Mincemeat is produced on Broadway and in the West End by Avalon (in association with SpitLip). The show was commissioned by New Diorama Theatre, co-commissioned by The Lowry, and also supported by the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat.
The show also continues its successful run in the West End, playing the Fortune Theatre and now entering its third year in London, booking to 7 June 2025.
