Game of Thrones and The Good Fight actress Rose Leslie will make her Royal Shakespeare (RSC) debut in a bold new adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham’s classic play, The Constant Wife.
The RSC has announced that Leslie will take on the lead role in Laura Wade’s reimagining of Maugham’s sharp and subversive comedy, running at the Swan Theatre from 20 June to 2 August 2025. Adapted by the Olivier Award-winning playwright behind Home, I’m Darling and directed by Tamara Harvey, this fresh take on the 1926 play promises to bring renewed energy to its themes of marriage, independence, and societal expectations.
Tamara Harvey reunites with Wade following their Olivier Award-winning collaboration on Home, I’m Darling. They are joined by a stellar creative team: set & costume design by Anna Fleischle (Death of a Salesman, Home, I’m Darling); co-costume design by Cat Fuller; lighting design by Ryan Day; sound design by Claire Windsor; casting by Charlotte Sutton CDG. Further casting and creative team members will be announced in the coming months.

Best known for her roles as Ygritte in Game of Thrones, Maia Rindell in The Good Fight, and Gwen Dawson in Downton Abbey, Leslie has built a career playing characters of strength, intelligence, and charm. On stage, she has appeared in Contractions (Sheffield Crucible), Bedlam (Globe Theatre), and Mixed Up North (Out of Joint).
A Timely Revival of a Classic Comedy
Originally written in 1926, The Constant Wife was groundbreaking in its portrayal of female agency and financial independence. Wade’s adaptation will highlight these themes with her signature wit and modern sensibility.
