Smash-hit West End comedy Fawlty Towers The Play is returning to London this summer 2025.
Back in October the production announced it would be closing in the West End this March, ahead of a major UK & Ireland tour in 2025.
The tour is still going ahead, but in great news for the West End, the show will make a London stop first, returning to the Apollo Theatre from 24 June to 13 September 2025.
The show then heads out on tour, starting at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley on 29 September 2025, and then visiting Eastbourne, Bournemouth, Wimbledon, Wycombe, Manchester, Liverpool, Northampton, Southend, Plymouth, Guildford, Leeds, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Sunderland, Wolverhampton, Stoke, Southampton, Ipswich, Birmingham, Bradford, Blackpool, Torquay, Truro, Milton Keynes, Llandudno, Hull, York, Woking, Nottingham, Norwich, Southsea, Cardiff, Newcastle, Dartford, Oxford, and Dublin. The current run of Fawlty Towers at the Apollo Theatre in London finishes on 1 March 2025.
Reacting to news of the show’s West End return, John Cleese said: “I’m delighted to announce the news that the Fawlty Towers stage show will be returning to the Apollo Theatre this June. It’s heart-warming that West End audiences still think Fawlty is as funny as ever. September this year will mark exactly 50 years since the first ever episode was broadcast on the BBC but here we are, all these years later, still making theatres rock with laughter.”
Based on the much-loved BBC comedy series, Fawlty Towers The Play has been brought to life on stage by the TV show’s original writer John Cleese, who starred as Basil Fawlty in the original TV series.
Fawlty Towers opened in the West End in May 2024, scoring great reviews from London’s theatre critics.
This West End stage adaptation is directed by Caroline Jay Ranger (Only Fools and Horses The Musical, Monty Python Live), and based on three of the original TV episodes: ‘The Hotel Inspector’ and ‘The Germans’ from series one, and ‘Communication Problems’ from series two.
The current London cast is led by Adam Jackson-Smith (The Girl On The Train, Outlander) as Basil Fawlty, Anna-Jane Casey (Cabaret, Girl From the North Country) as Sybil Fawlty; Hemi Yeroham (La Cage Aux Folles) as Manuel, Victoria Fox (Watching Glory Die) as Polly, and Paul Nicholas (Just Good Friends, EastEnders) as The Major.
They are joined by Rachel Izen as Mrs Richards; Steven Meo as Mr Hutchinson/German guest; Kate Russell-Smith as Miss Tibbs; Nicola Sanderson as Miss Gatsby; Greg Haiste as Mr Thurston/German guest; Danny Bayne as Mr Walt / Dr Finn; Neil Stuart as Taxi Driver/ Mr Firkins / Mr Kerr / Mr Sharp; Emma Fenney as German guest; and Hotel Guests played by Mia Austen, John Hasler, and Dale Superville. Completing the company are Ben Jacobson and Suzy Bloom.
Fawlty Towers The Play is based on the BBC comedy written by John Cleese and Connie Booth. It has been adapted for the stage by John Cleese and is directed by Caroline Jay Ranger. The creative team includes Set & Costume Designer Liz Ascroft, Lighting Designer Ian Scott, Casting Director Anne Vosser, Assistant Director Denise Ranger, and Resident Director Chris Kiely.
Fawlty Towers The Play is playing at the Apollo Theatre London, and must end on 1 March 2025. The show returns to the Apollo Theatre from 24 June to 13 September 2025.
