More casting has been announced for the new stage adaptation of Oscar-winning movie Shakespeare in Love.
Playing at the Noel Coward Theatre from 2 July 2014, the show will feature veteran actress Anna Carteret as Queen Elizabeth, the part that won Judi Dench an Oscar in 1999.
Paul Chahidi will take on the role of Henslowe, played in the movie by Geoffrey Rush.
They will be joined by the previously announced leading actors Tom Bateman, playing Will Shakespeare following Joseph Fiennes in the movie and Lucy Briggs-Owen as Viola De Lesseps, played by Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow in the film.
The cast will also feature Ian Bartholomew as Tilney, Tony Bell as Ralph, David Ganley as Burbage, Richard Howard as Sir Robert De Lesseps, Harry Jardine as Sam, Abigail McKern as Nurse, David Oakes as Marlowe, Patrick Osborne as Mr Wabash, Alistair Petrie as Wessex, Doug Rao as Ned Alleyn, Ferdy Roberts as Fennyman and Colin Ryan as John Webster.
Further cast include Daisy Boulton, Ryan Donaldson, Janet Fullerlove, Sandy Murray, Timothy O’Hara, Thomas Padden, Elliott Rennie, Charlie Tighe and Tim Van Eyken.
Produced by Disney and Sonia Friedman Productions, Shakespeare in Love is to be directed by Cheek by Jowl’s Declan Donnellan and designed by Nick Ormerod and features a stage adaptation by Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall based on Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard’s Academy Award-winning screenplay.
The play will include a company of over 30 actors and musicians, and promises to be a sweeping romantic comedy teeming with vibrant colours, characters, music and life.
