The forthcoming Broadway production of Sunset Boulevard directed by Jamie Lloyd has released the first song of its much-anticipated cast album.

The show caused a sensation in London when it premiered last year at the Savoy Theatre, starring Nicole Scherzinger as Norma Desmond, Tom Francis as Joe Gillis, Grace Hodgett Young as Betty, and David Thaxton as Max.

The London production won seven Olivier Awards, including Best Musical Revival, Nicole Scherzinger for Best Actress in a Musical and Tom Francis for Best Actor in a Musical.

That same cast is opening the show on Broadway this month, playing the St James Theatre in New York from 28 September 2024.

The first track to be released on all platforms today (LISTEN HERE), with an accompanying video directed by Jamie Lloyd, is “Sunset Boulevard” from the show, performed by Tom Francis.

SUNSET BLVD: The Album was recorded live on the stage of London’s Savoy Theatre, produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jamie Lloyd, Lee McCutcheon, Adam Fisher and Alan Williams. The album was recorded live and then mixed officially in Dolby Atmos, spatial audio.

Based on Billy Wilder’s movie, Sunset Boulevard is written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Don Black, Christopher Hampton and Amy Powers.

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber said in a statement: “This single sees Tom Francis give a mesmerising, dramatic performance, showcasing his dynamic vocal talent, and the complexity of the character of Joe Gillis. It is part of an album which, I think, is one of the best we have ever created. It perfectly captures one of the finest and most exciting reinventions of Sunset Boulevard ever produced.”

Director Jamie Lloyd said: “I was extremely humbled by the amazing enthusiasm of our West End audiences and am thrilled we get to bring this production to Broadway. SUNSET BLVD: The Album is released on 25 October 2024 on The Other Songs label.
