Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso, Taskmaster) is bringing his festive comedy A Christmas Carol (ish) to @sohoplace theatre in London this Christmas.
The two-time Emmy Award winner writes and stars in the show, which is based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol but with Scrooge as Santa Claus.
Promising to be an all-singing, all-dancing retelling of your favourite festive carol (ish), the show stars Nick Mohammed as Mr Swallow, with Kieran Hodgson (Two Doors Down), David Elms (Borderline), and Martha Howe-Douglas (Ghosts, Horrible Histories).
When Santa cancels Christmas on Christmas Eve, he’s visited by three ghosts who must convince him to see the error of his ways and rediscover the magic of Christmas. But with mere hours to go, and only one working reindeer, how will he deliver everything on time?!
A Christmas Carol (ish) is directed by Matt Peover, with music by Oliver Birch, set and costume design by Fly Davis, lighting design by Richard Howell, choreography by Emily Holt, musical supervision by Freddie Tapner, and musical director Honor Halford-MacLeod.
The show transfers into London following a successful run at Soho Theatre in 2022.
Nick Mohammed said in a statement: “I can’t quite put into words how utterly thrilled I am to be finally plonking Mr. Swallow on a West End stage – albeit in the guise of Scrooge in the guise of Santa Claus! Getting to put on an all-singing, all-dancing show like this has been a dream come true and I can’t wait for everyone who saw the development run at Soho Theatre to be positively startled by how much bigger and – mostly – madder it’s got! With so many versions of A Christmas Carol to choose from this festive season we can absolutely guarantee this is the only one where all the words, context and overall meaning has been altered to meet my very specific requirements. Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight!”
Nick Mohammed is also appearing at @sohoplace this October, as the first performer in White Rabbit Red Rabbit. Nick appears on 1 October 2024.
A Christmas Carol (ish) plays at @sohoplace from 16 November to 31 December 2024.
