Watch Disney’s fabulous launch event for The Greatest Showman The New Musical
As we reported earlier this month, Disney Theatrical Group has announced plans for its major new stage musical based on hit movie The Greatest Showman.
And their announcement was in the best possible way: a huge “Greatest Showman” segment as part of their annual Disney D23 fan event in California.

There have been rumours about a stage version of The Greatest Showman for years, including news leaked last October about Disney holding a workshop in the US for the new show.
The stage adaptation of The Greatest Showman, featuring the Academy Award-nominated songs of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen), has promised to firm-up its production timetable, creative team, and cast at a later date.
There’s no news on where the show will premiere, but it seems that London is a major contender. Unconfirmed rumours from multiple sources suggest that London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane could be the primary location, opening in 2026 directed by Casey Nicholaw.
Casey Nicholaw (Aladdin, The Book of Mormon), who is also helming the 2025 production of Hercules at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
The 2017 movie of The Greatest Showman was directed by Michael Gracey, written by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon based on a story by Jenny Bicks, and had original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film starred Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya.
The Greatest Showman is not to be confused with new show Come Alive! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular, which is coming to London next month, playing in a pop-up circus venue at the Empress Museum in London. Come Alive! will feature songs from the movie, but won’t follow the same story or characters.

Also during D23, Disney celebrated the 30th anniversary of its theatrical stage division, with performances from Disney’s The Lion King, Aladdin, Hercules, and our very own Samantha Barks singing ‘Let It Go’ from Frozen.
Frozen finishes its run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London on 8 September, but there is hope! Disney also announced at the event that Frozen has been filmed in London and will premiere on their Disney+ streaming platform in 2025.
