Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of), the comic retelling of Jane Austen’s classic story, has announced casting for the show ahead of its UK tour.
A hit at the Edinburgh Fringe, and following a run at the West End’s Criterion Theatre in 2021, Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) kicks off its new tour at the Newcastle Theatre Royal on 19 September 2024, and then travels the country – see all tour dates here.
The show’s cast will include Emma Rose Creaner (Peter Pan) as Tillie, Charlotte Lucas, Charles Bingley and Miss Bingley; Eleanor Kane (Hex) as Anne, Mary Bennet, Lydia Bennet and Mr Gardiner; Rhianna McGreevy (The Winter’s Tale) as Flo, Mrs Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy; Naomi Preston Low (Further Than the Furthest Thing) as Effie and Elizabeth Bennet; and Christine Steel (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) as Clara, Jane Bennet, and Lady Catherine de Burgh.
The cast also includes Isobel Donkin, Susie Barrett and Georgia Firth.
Written by Olivier Award and Evening Standard Theatre Award winner Isobel McArthur, this is the second tour for the show, in which five actors portray the young female servants who retell one of literature’s most famous stories, playing all the characters and singing and playing all the instruments.
Men, money and microphones are fought over in this irreverent and affectionate adaptation, where the servants are ready to meddle in the match-making, salivate at the scandal and revel in the romance – all the while belting their hearts out on the karaoke!
The show features a string of pop classics including Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and You’re So Vain.
Directed by Isobel McArthur, the creative team also includes design by Ana Inés Jabares-Pita, choreography by Emily Jane Boyle, comedy staging by Jos Houben, lighting by Colin Grenfell, musical supervision by Michael John McCarthy, sound design by Michael John McCarthy and Dylan Saberton for Autograph, associate direction by Martin Leonard, assistant direction by Finlay Glen, costume supervision by Morag Pirrie, fight direction by Claire Llewellyn, and casting by Sarah Bird and Marc Frankum.
Tour dates include Newcastle, Northampton, Chelmsford, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Shrewsbury, York, Guildford, Poole, Sheffield, Malvern, Plymouth, Birmingham, Richmond, Glasgow, Oxford, Salford, Bath, Aberdeen, Canterbury, Lichfield, Leeds and Southampton.
