See-Saw Films (Slow Horses, Heartstopper, The King’s Speech) is set to adapt Benedict Lombe’s acclaimed West End play Shifters for television.
The show is currently playing at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London following a sold-out run at the Bush Theatre in London.
Shfters stars Tosin Cole (Doctor Who, Supacell) and Heather Agyepong (The Power).
The TV adaptation would potentially extend the drama into a long-running series. Casting is yet to be announced.
The news was first reported by Variety, where Helen Gregory at See-Saw Films said: “It’s a very sweeping love story borne out of a very specific set of characters. It follows two characters who basically meet as the only Black kids in school in their philosophy class and experience that astonishing imprint of first love and tracks them as they grow apart, together, apart, together, allowing us to explore the challenges and joys of intimacy and how we all have the potential to get in our way.”
The lead executive producers for the Shifters TV series are Moss Barclay and Maria Nicholson.

The current West End production is directed by Lynette Linton (Blues for an Alabama Sky, Barcelona), with a creative team that also includes Set and Costume Design by Alex Berry, Lighting Design by Neil Austin, Sound Design by Tony Gayle, Composition by Xana, Movement and Intimacy Direction by Shelley Maxwell, Production Dramaturg is Deirdre O’Halloran, Voice Coach is Joel Trill and Casting by Heather Basten CDG.
It was announced earlier this month that award-winning actor Idris Elba, broadcaster and entrepreneur Maya Jama and Brit Award and Mercury Prize-winning musician and actor Little Simz have joind the production as producers.
Tickets to Shifters are now available. The show is playing at the Duke of York’s Theatre to 12 October.
