The Almeida Theatre’s sold-out production of American Psycho starring former Doctor Who Matt Smith is to transfer into the West End.

The show’s composer Duncan Sheik confirmed the news during a recent US radio interview, revealing that the show is going to move into the West End this Autumn starring Matt Smith, and may also transfer to Broadway.

The show had its world premiere at the Almeida in December 2013, with a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, music and lyrics by Spring Awakening composer Duncan Sheik and based on the cult novel by Bret Easton Ellis that was turned into a movie starring Christian Bale.

Dubbed as a musical thriller, the show was directed by the Almeida’s new artistic director Rupert Goold.

Critical acclaim from the critics and queues around the block for tickets have led producers to move the show into town. The hold up has been Matt’s busy schedule but apparently a space has been clearer and a theatre search is currently underway.
