Disney Theatrical Group showcased their new production of Disney’s Hercules, coming to London next year.
Whilst exact dates are to be confirmed, the show is believed to be opening in June 2025, playing the West End’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.
The stage musical is based on Disney’s classic 1997 animated movie, and has songs by Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy Award winners Alan Menken (music) and David Zippel (lyrics), including new songs written specially for the show, plus music from the movie including “Go the Distance”.
The book is by Tony Award winners Robert Horn (Tootsie) and Kwame Kwei-Armah, outgoing Young Vic Artistic Director.
Hercules was showcased by Disney last night at their annual D23 fan event in California, where performers sang songs from the hit musical.
The creative team for Disney’s Hercules includes director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw (Disney’s Aladdin), costume designers Gregg Barnes and Sky Switser, set designer Dane Laffrey, video designer George Reeve, with additional video design by Dane Laffrey, co-choreographer Tanisha Scott, lighting designer Jeff Croiter, sound designer Kai Harada, puppet designer James Oritz, hairstyles and wigs by Mia M. Neal, makeup by Kirk Cambridge-Del Pesche, special effects by Jeremy Chernick, music supervisor and arranger Michael Kosarin, orchestrations by Danny Troob and Joseph Joubert, and dance arrangements by David Chase.
Other announcements at D23 included that a new stage musical of The Greatest Showman is in the works by Disney, based on the hit movie; and that Disney’s Frozen has been filmed at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and will be streamed on Disney+ in 2025.
To celebrate the news, and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Disney’s theatrical division, star of Frozen in London Samantha Barks, who plays Elsa, gave a special performance of “Let It Go” at the D23 event.
Casting for the London run of Hercules is to be announced.
The show is currently playing the Neue Flora theare in Hamburg, Germany produced by Stage Entertainment.
The German production of Disney’s Hercules stars Benét Monteiro as Hercules, Hope Maine as Hercules Alternate, Mae Ann Jorolan as Meg, Leslie Beehann as Calliope, Chasity Crisp as Thalia, Venolia as Terpsichore, UZOH as Clio, Shekinah Mcfarlane as Melpomene, Kristofer Weinstein Storey as Phil, Detlef Leistenschneider as Hades, Mario Saccoccio as Charles, and Andre Haedicke as Heinz.
In November last year at the Royal Variety Performance, during a special 100th anniversary celebration of Disney, the Five Muses from Hercules performed “Zero to Hero” from the show.
Disney’s Hercules will play the West End’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane in June 2025.
