Isy Suttie and Frances Ruffelle star in the fascinating musical The A to Z of Mrs P at the Southwark Playhouse.

For anyone who has ever searched to find their way, The A-Z of Mrs P is the fascinating true-life story behind the pocket-sized A-Z Street Guide of London, charting one woman’s pioneering journey to map London’s 23,000 streets.

Singer and composer Gwyneth Herbert (The Sea Cabinet) and playwright and author Diane Samuels (Kindertransport) have joined forces in creating this wonderful new show, telling the moving story of how Phyllis Pearsall embraced a city and faced her mentor and nemesis to find her own feet.

The A-Z of Mrs P is conceived by Neil Marcus and directed by Sam Buntrock.

THE STORY

In 1936 an eccentric Bohemian artist called Phyllis Pearsall left her husband in Venice and came to find her own way in London. When she gets a telegram from her father, map publisher Alexander Gross, a new life opens up her as she puts down her paints and picks up the drawing board to follow in her father’s footsteps to map an entire city.

Following their different journeys as they intersect and diverge through the thoroughfares and alleyways of London, the musical presents a troubled family saga full of genius and inspiration.

THE CAST

A fabulous cast includes Isy Suttie (Peep Show, Shameless) as the pioneering Mrs P, Tony Award-winner Frances Ruffelle (Les Miserables, Pippin, Piaf) as her mother, Olivier Award-winner Michael Matus (Martin Guerre, The Sound of Music) as her father, the map publisher Alexander (Sandor) Gross; and Stuart Matthew Price (Parade, Shrek) as her brother Tony. Other cast includes Ian Caddick, Sarah Earnshaw, Max Gallagher, Sidney Livingstone and Dawn Sievewright.
