The career of lyricist Tim Rice is to be celebrated in a special concert to be held at the Royal Festival Hall.

Hosted by ex-ITV head Michael Grade, “Tim Rice – A Life in Song” will be held on 8 July 2014 at the Royal Festival Hall.

A range of top-name artists will perform at the concert, accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra. The evening will also consist of an interview with Rice by Michael Grade.

The concert will be filmed for broadcast on the BBC.

Oscar-winner Tim Rice’s long career includes some of the most successful musicals in modern theatre history including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita with Andrew Lloyd Webber, and songs for a number of Disney’s animated movies and musicals including The Lion King and Aladdin.

His most recent show, From Here to Eternity, is currently playing at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is to get the big-screen treatment.

Elton John’s Rocket Pictures has confirmed that the company will make an animated movie based on the musical after acquiring the film rights.

To be made in association with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Group, the movie will be produced by Rocket Pictures chief executive Steve Hamilton Shaw and Elton John’s partner David Furnish alongside executive producers Andrew Lloyd Webber and Elton John.

Really Useful plan to co-produce and fund a range of new movies, TV shows and theatrical ventures.
