Production photos have been released for the world premiere production of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, a new stage adaptation of John le Carré’s classic spy novel.

Adapted by David Eldridge and directed by Jeremy Herrin, the production is the first ever to adapt a John le Carré novel, and is now playing at Chichester Festival Theatre’s Minerva Theatre until 21 September 2024.

The play is set at the height of the cold war, with disillusioned British spy Alec Leamas persuaded by head of ‘The Circus’ George Smiley to undertake one last mission against the leader of the East German Secret Service.

The cast of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold includes Philip Arditti (Breathtaking, No Return) as Fiedler; Norma Atallah (Follies, In The Heights) as Miss Crail/President of the Tribunal; Mat Betteridge (Ulster American, Slow Horses) as Riemeck/Kiever; Gunnar Cauthery (Dear England, Mack & Mabel) as Mundt; Ian Drysdale (Firebrand, Ross) as Control; Tom Kanji (Richard My Richard, The Box of Delights) as Ashe; Rory Keenan (Somewhere Boy, Plenty) as Leamas; Agnes O’Casey (Lies We Tell, The Miracle Club) as Liz; John Ramm (King Lear, Wolf Hall/Bring Up The Bodies) as Smiley; and David Rubin (Grantchester, Finding My Voice) as Pitt/Ford.

Joining Jeremy Herrin in the creative team are designer Max Jones, lighting designer Azusa Ono, composer Paul Englishby, sound designer Elizabeth Purnell, movement director Lucy Cullingford, fight director Bret Yount, and casting director Jessica Ronane CDG.

The Spy Who Came in from the Cold is playing at Chichester Festival Theatre’s Minerva Theatre to 21 September 2024.
