NOW That’s What I Call A Musical has revealed further casting for its world premiere 2024 & 2025 national tour.
Directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, NOW That’s What I Call A Musical will star Melissa Jacques (I Should Be So Lucky, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) and Sam Bailey (The X Factor, Chicago), who will share the role of April in the show.
Melissa Jacques will perform the role from 6 September 2024 in Aylesbury to 7 December 2024 in Brighton; and Sam Bailey will then take over the role from 14 January 2025 in Southampton, to 12 April 2025 in London Wimbledon.
Melissa and Sam join an already announced cast that includes Nina Wadia (Goodness Gracious Me, Eastenders) as Gemma, plus special guests who will be dropping in throughout the tour playing themselves and singing the songs that made them NOW icons, including pop icons Sinitta, Sonia, Carol Decker and Jay Osmond.
Currently, Sinitta will perform in Aylesbury, Sheffield, Canterbury, Nottingham, Norwich, Dublin, Hull, York; Sonia in Newcastle, Cardiff, Milton Keynes, Brighton, Southampton, Southend, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, London Wimbledon; Carol Decker in Truro, Belfast, Woking, Oxford; and Jay Osmond in Bradford. Further special guests to be announced.
This brand-new British musical is written by award-winning comedian Pippa Evans and will begin performances on 6 September 2024 at Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre before heading out on a major UK and Ireland tour – see all dates here.
The show is initially set in Birmingham in 1989 as two school friends, Gemma and April, are busy with very important business – planning their lives based on Number One Magazine quizzes and dreaming of snogging Rick Astley. Cut to Birmingham 2009 and it’s the most dreaded event of their lives– the school reunion. Drama, old flames and receding hairlines come together as friends reunite and everything from the past starts to slot into place. The biggest question is: what was with all that hairspray?
