The producers of the world premiere production of Dr. Strangelove have announced further casting.
Stanley Kubrick’s timeless classic movie Dr. Strangelove is getting a stage reboot courtesy of BAFTA and Emmy Award winner Armando Iannucci (The Thick of It, Veep).
Already announced to star in the show is Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge).
Joining him will be Olivier Award winner Giles Terera (Hamilton, Cylde’s, Passing Strange) in the role of General Buck Turgidson. Further casting is to be announced.
Dr. Strangelove begins performances at the West End’s Noël Coward Theatre from 8 October 2024.
Also announced today, the season at the Noel Coward Theatre will be extended for five weeks, and will now play to 25 January 2025 in London.
The show will then play Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre from 5 to 22 February 2025.
Directed by Olivier Award winner Sean Foley, the show promises to be a explosively funny satire of mutually assured destruction, about a rogue U.S. General who triggers a nuclear crisis.
The wider creative team for Dr. Strangelove includes Set & Costume Designer Hildegard Bechtler; Lighting Designer Jessica Hung Han Yun; Sound Designer & Composer Ben & Max Ringham; Projection Designer Akhila Krishnan; Casting Director Amy Ball CDG; Production Manager Chris Hay; Associate Director Dewi Johnson; Associate Costume Designer & Costume Supervisor Laura Hunt; Associate Lighting Designer Lucy Adams; Casting Associate Arthur Carrington; Sound System Designer Sam Clarkson for Sound Quiet Time; Wigs & Make Up Supervisor Kate Elizabeth; and Props Supervisor Chris Marcus and Jonathan Hall for Marcus Hall Props.
Giles Terera said in a statement: “Part of the excitement of doing this project was getting to work with really great people; and the gentlemen who are putting this particular project together operate at the highest level – in terms of their craft of storytelling, comedy, satire and telling really entertaining stories about really consequential subject matters in an entertaining and humorous way.”
Steve Coogan said: “The idea of putting Dr Strangelove on stage is daunting. A huge responsibility. It’s also an exciting challenge, an opportunity to bring this timeless classic to a new audience. Knowing that I will be part of a creative team led by Sean Foley and Armando Iannucci means I will be working with the best people. Sean is a master of stage comedy and Armando and I started working with each other over 30 years ago. We made some memorable comedy together so it’s great to be collaborating with him once again.”

Dr. Strangelove is playing at the Noel Coward Theatre from 8 October to 25 January 2025.
Giles Terera is currently starring in Passing Strange at The Young Vic theatre in London until 6 July 2024.
