The Society of London Theatre, the trade body for theatre owners and managers, has announced that it will display portraits of this year’s Olivier Award-winners plus some of theatres biggest names, on the Piccadilly Lights at Piccadilly Circus.
The display will take place tomorrow, Tuesday 11 June 2024, at 4pm.
The Society of London Theatre organises the annual Olivier Awards, alongside industry initiatives including West End Live, the Theatre for Every Child campaign and Kids Week.
The portraits feature famous West End names including actors Nicole Scherzinger (Sunset Boulevard), Sarah Snook (The Portrait of Dorian Gray), Andrew Scott (Vanya), David Tennant (Macbeth), Sheridan Smith (Shirley Valentine), Daniel Mays (Guys & Dolls), and James Norton (A Little Life).
Creatives captured on camera include choreographer Arlene Phillips (Guys & Dolls, Starlight Express), producer Sonia Friedman (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), and director Stephen Daldry (Stranger Things: The First Shadow).
The photos are by acclaimed photographer Rankin and taken during this year’s Olivier Awards ceremony in April at the Royal Albert Hall. There will also be video footage shot by Cameron O’Connell.
Rankin said in a statement: “Theatre is an integral part of our cultural identity, so it was a privilege to photograph the nominees and winners at this year’s Olivier Awards – supported by Fujifilm – and celebrate the very best of London theatre. The display on the Piccadilly Lights will be a fitting showcase of the world-leading theatre industry in the UK.”
