Yes, dear reader, you read that right.
Hollywood screen siren Demi Moore has taken her dog to see Jamie Lloyd’s production of Romeo & Juliet in the West End starring Hollywood Spider-Man Tom Holland as Romeo and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet.
That’s quite a lot to unpack and leaves us with multiple questions, chiefly how is Demi Moore allowed to take her small dog Pilaf to see a West End show?
Demi talked about seeing the hit West End show to Hearst’s Best magazine, in an interview promoting her latest movie, The Substance, in which she plays an TV fitness instructor who signs up for a mysterious medical regime that promises to create the perfect version of herself!
Demi said in the interview that Pilaf is, “you know, she’s like my little friend, my partner. She’s my little travel mate. And she’s just a joy. I usually have her in my little sling. We go everywhere. I mean, she’s been to the French Open and the Louvre. She’s been to Broadway shows. She recently saw Romeo And Juliet with Tom Holland in London.”
When asked what Pilaf thought of the show, Demi said: “She was quite moved. She thought the performance was extraordinary, as it was. She loved trying on the diamonds at Chopard, too.”
Romeo & Juliet is proving a hot ticket with humans as well as dogs, and initially sold-out all available seats within hours of them going on sale. The show enjoyed a wide range of reviews from the London critics, from raves to pans.
Hundreds of fans gather after every performance of the show, to see Tom Holland as he leaves the Stage Door.
Westminster Council has even had to put special rules in place on St Martin’s Lane, location of the Duke of York’s Theatre where Romeo & Juliet is playing.
A Westminster Council spokesman said: ‘We welcome visitors to the West End and it is fantastic to see how popular theatres are. However, maintaining pavements and public spaces is important to ensuring public safety. Managing crowds and access is the responsibility of each theatre. Where there are issues, we can work with venues and the police to provide additional support.”
Joining Tom Holland (Spider-Man) as Romeo and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers (Bad Education, School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play) as Juliet, are Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who, Sense8, God of Carnage) as Nurse, Michael Balogun (Sherwood, The Lehman Trilogy) as Friar, Tomiwa Edun (Macbeth, The Deep Blue Sea) as Capulet, Mia Jerome (Treasure Island) as Montague, Daniel Quinn-Toye as Paris, Ray Sesay (Doctor Who, Anna Karenina) as Tybalt, Nima Taleghani (Cyrano de Bergerac, Hope Has A Happy Meal) as Benvolio, Joshua-Alexander Williams as Mercutio, and Callum Heinrich (Mamma Mia!) and Kody Mortimer (Sunset Boulevard) as Camera Operators.
Romeo & Juliet is playing at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London until 3 August 2024.
