New Musical The Fabulist to Open at Charing Cross Theatre

London’s Charing Cross Theatre will host the world premiere of The Fabulist, a major new musical set to debut this August.

Inspired by Italian composer Giovanni Paisiello’s opera The Imaginary Astrologer, The Fabulist promises a joyous and fast-paced musical comedy experience. Set against the backdrop of 1929 Italy, the story follows an illusionist on the run from Mussolini and the Catholic Church. His flight leads him to an unexpected sanctuary—a bustling film set—where he captures the attention of a young screenwriter.

Giovanni Paisiello (1740-1816), renowned for his bubbly, colorful, and fun-filled operettas, provides the inspiration for this show. Combining some of his most sublime music with a brand-new libretto by James Farwell The production promises to be both a forgotten classic and a modern tale of romance and self-discovery.

The creative team behind the show includes Director John Walton, Musical Director and Orchestrator Bobby Goulder, Set and Costume Designer David Shields, Lighting Designer Fridthjofur Thorsteinsson, Sound Designer Andrew Johnson, Casting Director Debbie O’Brien, and Producer Steven Levy for Charing Cross Theatre Productions.

Casting details for the show is yet to be announced.

Currently, Charing Cross Theatre is showcasing Marie Curie, a dramatic production about the life and legacy of the famed scientist.
