New musical SuperYou has confirmed the creative team for its autumn run at the Leicester Curve theatre.
News of the UK premiere for the show was announced in March, when the Leicester Curve unveiled their new season.
SuperYou has music, lyrics and a book by Lourds Lane.
The show has already played a one-nighter concert at the West End Lyric Theatre in 2023, starring Lucie Jones (Wicked/Waitress/Les Miserables/X-Factor) as Katie, the show’s writer, composer Lourds Lane as Rise, Luke Brady (The Prince of Egypt) as Jay, Jenny O’Leary (Heathers) as Ima-Mazing, Sharon Ballard (Mother Goose) as Blast, Joni Ayton-Kent (Carousel) as Seven, Aaliyah Monk (School of Rock West End) as Young Katie, Jonty Peach (Romeo) as Matty, Maddy Brennan (My Fair Lady, Cabaret, Oklahoma!) as Mom, and Will Bozier (Wicked, Moulin Rouge!) as Mi-Roar.
The production in Leicester will be directed and choreographed by JoAnn M Hunter, with music supervision by Wendy Bobbitt Cavett, set design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Cynthia Nordstorm, video design by Caite Hevner, lighting design by Ryan O’Gara, and sound design by Tony Gayle. Casting by Pearson Casting.
SuperYou is about the transformative journey of a comic book artist who discovers self-love and her own voice as her superheroine creations spring to life. The musical’s score incorporates a wide range of musical styles, including rock, pop, hip hop, swing, blues, gospel, country, and soulful power ballads.
Creator Lourds Lane said in a statement: “The show we are world premiering in Leicester is a completely different show from any concert or presentation that we have ever done in the past, as the show is now restructured and completely sung through like Rent, Les Mis, or Hamilton. If you are already a fan of our music, now there is much more of it! I’m thrilled for fans old and new to come out and be the first to see our brand-new rock opera premiering at Curve theatre this Fall!”
SuperYou runs in the Leicester Curve’s studio space from 22 October to 9 November 2024.
