The Brokeback Mountain and Prince of Persia actor, who is currently starring in Prisoners alongside Hugh Jackman, told the Magic FM radio station that he is definitely looking for another London theatre role and that, “I love it here and I loved working here on the stage.”

He also singled out the Old Vic and Kevin Spacey for praise, saying that “The Old Vic is such an incredible institution and an amazing theatre space. I would love to work there. And if that temptation calls, I will answer in one way or another.”

The actor won a best newcomer prize at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his part in Kenny Lonergan’s This Is Our Youth in 2002.

Jake Gyllenhaal also made his Broadway stage debut last year in Nick Payne’s If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet for which Ben Brantley in the New York Times said that he was “winningly at ease” in the play.

Jake’s co-star in Prisoners, Hugh Jackman, is also rumoured to be returning to the London stage this year to perform a short run of his acclaimed one-man show. He is also workshopping a new musical about Houdini set for a Broadway run in 2014 or 2015.
