The Young Vic has announced that Romola Garai, who was set to star in Nachtland at the Young Vic, has had to leave the show, to be replaced by Dorothea Myer-Bennett.
The Young Vic said in a statement on Twitter that “Update on Nachtland: Dorothea Myer-Bennett will be joining the cast as regrettably Romola Garai has had to step down from the production. We’d like to thank Romola for her time with the production, and for her warm wishes for the show.”
The BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated actress, writer and director Romola Garai (Atonement, The Hour, Queen Anne) was due to play Nicola in the production.
Dorothea Myer-Bennett’s recent stage credits include Possession at the Arcola, and Leopoldstadt at the Wyndham’s Theatre.
The cast also includes Olivier, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated actress Jane Horrocks (Little Voice, Cabaret, Absolutely Fabulous) as Evamaria; John Heffernan (Much Ado About Nothing, Edward II, Dracula) as Philipp; Angus Wright (Flowers, Peep Show, Oresteia) as Kahl; Gunnar Cauthery (Dear England, Mars) as Fabian; and Jenna Augen (Leopoldstadt, Bad Jews, The Comedy About A Bank Robbery) as Judith.
Directed by Tony Award winner Patrick Marber (Leopoldstadt, Closer, Travesties, Don Juan in Soho, Dealer’s Choice), Nachtland is a mordant satire about marriage, legacy, and the rise of the new right by one of Germany’s leading playwrights Marius von Mayenburg.
The production hasdesign is by Anna Fleischle, lighting design by Richard Howell, composition and sound design by Adam Cork, movement direction by EJ Boyle, casting by Amy Ball CDG.
Nachtland runs in the Main House at the Young Vic from 20 February to 20 April 2024.
